Emergency Contact Information, Tips For Snowstorm

Posted by Lt. Tim Reed

Snowfall of 2014 is making its way to New Jersey. In preparation for the storm and drop in temperatures, emergency hotlines and web services have been made available.

During the storm, the Brigantine Office of Emergency Management recommends checking on family members and friends, as well as the elderly, disabled or isolated. Also the NJOEM recommends keeping pets indoors and dressing in layers to avoid frostbite and hypothermia when going outdoors.

OEM director James Bennett  is recommending drivers check their vehicle’s cooling, charging and exhaust systems by a qualified technician and to have good wipers and windshield washer fluid on their vehicles. Throughout the storm, Lt. Bennett  is recommending drivers drive slowly, leave distance between other vehicles and carry an emergency winter kit with flashlights, warm clothes, gloves, non-perishable snacks, a blanket, a shovel, an abrasive like sand and a cell phone charger. Before starting a vehicle, Lt. Bennett  recommends drivers make sure their tailpipe is clean before starting their car and to remove all snow and ice from the vehicle.
