Accident Reconstruction Unit

A tragic fact of modern life are the occurrences of motor vehicle accidents. Though patrol officers investigate numerous accidents on a daily basis, most are relatively routine as they relate to police work. However, some accidents are far more difficult to assess and investigate. Because of this, specialized training is required in order to determine the exact circumstances of each event as well as completing the comprehensive documentation required. The Brigantine Police Department selected and trained officers for this specialized duty. Select officers attended specialized training in the reconstruction of motor vehicle accidents including identifying and collecting evidence, evaluating data, and creating diagrams which culminate in the “reconstruction” of the entire occurrence. Accident reconstructionists are on-call and typically respond to most major injury accidents and all fatality motor vehicle accidents.
